Mount Etna Sunset 4×4 Tour – Etna 4×4 Excursions

We had a great sunset tour! It wasn't exactly sunset, but late enough that very few others were around which was great. We were there in early June 2025 and it was definitely a little cold on the summit. David was our tour guide and Sergio was our driver. They were great! They were both super friendly and happy to take pictures and answer questions. Highly recommend this tour!

We were staying at the other side of Sicily with a 3.5 hrs drive to Etna so we opted for a sunset tour, not so much for the sunset aspect, more for the later start. We arrived at the meeting point in good time and the Go Etna crew were already waiting for us, so there was no delay on heading off. After a quick welcome and explanation, we piled into the Land Cruisers and off we went!

There were 10 people in total (plus crew), split between 2 cars, so plenty of room for us all and no issues with gathering round for the very interesting guided talks at the various stops along the way. And these were genuinely interesting, with a bit of history, a bit of geology and a good dose of humour thrown in. There were various stops along the way to view the various lava flows and – a particular highlight – the opportunity to walk through a section of lava tunnel.

The only downside on our trip was that, despite the whole week before and after being glorious sunshine, on the day of our trip Etna was shrouded in cloud. So, unfortunately, we didn't get to see the (undoubtedly) glorious views or the (I'm sure spectacular) sunset. However, everyone agreed that we actually really enjoyed the spooky atmosphere that the mists provided, so we weren't disappointed.

Would I recommend this trip? Definitely, yes! As my partner said, "we can't go to Sicily and not go to Etna!". Would I do the trip again? Absolutely – and hopefully we'd get to see the views too!

The GO Etna Sunset Trip was one of the absolute highlights of my stay in Sicily! The tour was very well organized and truly exceeded my expectations.

My guide was fantastic – he spoke excellent English and shared so much fascinating information with great passion and enthusiasm. What impressed me most was that he didn’t just talk about the volcano, but also answered all my questions about Sicilian history, culture, and everyday life.

The views at sunset were breathtaking, and the entire experience had a magical, almost surreal atmosphere. I felt safe, well taken care of, and inspired throughout the whole trip.

Our Jeep tour of Mt Etna far surpassed our expectations due to our wonderful tour guide, Alberto. He picked us up from central Catania and from that point on we knew we were in good friends. Nothing was too much trouble and he was such an interesting and friendly guide. What really set this apart from other tours was the Alberto had a deep knowledge and passion for geography - this is what he lives and breathes and he really loves the wonders of Mt Etna and its unique ecosystem. He shared his knowledge beautifully (in perfect English) and re-explained it for the kids (and me!) if a concept was very complicated. It was a beautiful experience that we won't forget.

We toured with David for the 4x4 Sunset tour and loved it. It gave us facts and sights about Sicily that we could not have gotten elsewhere. David was very informative and knew every answer to every question.
