The current eruption has lasted for two weeks with interruptions of a maximum of four days.

The eruption has something magical at the moment, as it is not a splashing lava fountain, but a slow and calm flowing lava flow, which enchants the cityscape of Catania above all in the evening hours. The glowing peak of Mount Etna is outstanding during clear nights. In evening of the 19th April around 8:00 pm, the show was perfect as the stream furcated in various directions, and during the sunset, slowly descended the slopes of the Bove Valley.
The lava flow on the steep southern flank below the south-east crater led to smaller dips in the mountain wall, which for a few minutes produced slight clouds of reddish-brown powder, which the east wind dispersed again in the shortest time.
